Yesterday was my birthday. Since I turned 21 I've tried not to make a big deal about it. After all, it's really just another day and no cause to celebrate.
Everybody wished me a happy birthday. Family members, friends, coworkers, people I hardly ever talk to. Even people I've never met before from a message board I no longer visit took a few seconds to acknowledge my birthday. I let my grandfather guilt me into going out to dinner and I have to 90 minutes out of my way so my parents can do the same.
I didn't want dinner or a cake or even gifts. All I wanted was a phone call from her and I didn't get it.
